Spring is coming, which means many of us are ready to lighten up and clean out.
Has your skin been acting up? Do you wish you had more energy to make it through the day instead of crashing mid-afternoon? Do you find yourself craving sugar, carbs, and other junk food? Is your digestion not quite proper? Are you dreading putting your swimsuit back on?
Maybe it’s time for a detox. Reset your eating habits, focus on eating healthy whole foods, and learn how to feed your body what it wants.
Detoxification is a normal part of your body’s daily processes. Just like your heart beats, your lungs breathe, and your stomach breaks down food, your body is also working to remove toxins, pollutants, chemicals, and wastes from your body every single day. The primary ways your body does this are through your liver, lungs, skin, and kidneys.
We’re exposed to harmful toxins daily, whether it’s through the water we drink or
even in the shower, the electronics we use like computers and cell phones that off-gas chemicals, even the chemicals and toxins present in items found all around our homes. We also consume toxins through the foods we eat, what we drink, and even the products we put on our bodies. Because we are exposed to toxins consistently, our bodies can get overwhelmed. When our bodies get overwhelmed, those toxic chemicals no longer get flushed out and instead reside in our bodily tissue. Our bodies try to protect us from dangerous substances by setting them aside, surrounding them with mucus and fat so that they will not cause an imbalance or trigger an immune response. That’s a good thing - but it can explain
why we feel sluggish or feel like we can’t lose that stubborn belly weight.
When you combine that with eating nutrient-dense foods and giving our bodies a break for five days, your body really can begin the process of releasing your stored toxins.
Is it time for a detox?
- You know you aren’t choosing foods that support you
- You’re bloated, your pants are feeling tight, or you’ve given up wearing pants with buttons and zippers (HELLO, yoga pants!)
- You haven’t been sleeping well.
- You’re ready to hit the reset button on your eating habits.
A few signs of needing a detox are fatigue, headaches, skin problems, and excess fat, especially in your belly. But, the truth is that if you just aren't feeling that great, a detox can help. Plus, it’s a great way to start over!
Let’s face it, we live in a toxic world, and we're exposed to pollutants daily, whether it's pesticides in our food, fumes from traffic, or even toxic materials used to make computers and phones. Our bodies can only handle so much toxic input at a time. When we get overloaded, We often experience adverse symptoms like headaches, irritability, belly fat, bloating, breakouts, fatigue, and more.
