Headaches can sneak up on you and disrupt your day-to-day life. You can relieve your headaches and migraines naturally. Try these three easy headache relief tips!


Water makes up about 50-70% of our entire body composition. With two thirds of our body made up of water, it’s no wonder that adequate hydration is so crucial to our health.

Staying hydrated may help you prevent a migraine attack. Treat your headache naturally with water.

Tips on staying hydrated:

-Keep a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day

-Set an alarm or reminder to drink water throughout your day

-If you don't like the taste of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon, lime, or cucumber to your drink

-When you're feeling hungry, drink water

-Drink before, during, and after exercise

It is important to remain aware of the quality of water you’re drinking. Consumption of unfiltered water can contribute to the overall toxic load of your body. Stay aware of the quality and cleanliness. Remember, it is possible that your water is clean but still contains fluoride and chlorine which can be toxic for your health. Be mindful of the microplastic contamination and environmental damage when you choose plastic bottles to store and carry your water. In such cases, alternatives such as ceramic, stainless-steel, or glass can be used.

Essential Oils

When essential oils are used correctly, they can provide numerous medicinal benefits. Essential oils have been used to calm headaches and ease stress for centuries. The aroma from essential oils can help decrease stress, a main cause of headaches or migraines. Just a few drops of oil can reduce the frequency of migraines.

Here are a few essential oils that can help with your headaches and migraines:

Peppermint - Peppermint oil is one of the most commonly used essential oils to treat headaches and migraines. Peppermint essential oil contains menthol, and can help relax muscles and ease pain. Applying peppermint oil can help relieve pain from tension headaches and migraine attacks.

Lavender - Breathing in the scent of lavender essential oil can help manage migraines. Lavender oil is best for migraines due to stress and lack of sleep, tension headaches and hormonal headaches.

Rosemary - Rosemary oil contains anti-inflammatory and painkilling properties that can reduce stress, relieve pain, and improve circulation, which can all help headaches.

Suggested uses:

-Rub it into your skin (chest, temples, behind ears, palms, etc.)

-Use an oil diffuser

-Mix with a carrier oil (ex. coconut oil)

-Add the oil to a warm bath/shower and breathe in the steam

Practice Self-Care

When you feel a headache or migraine coming on, take some time to relax and focus on yourself. Self-care is an important step in managing your headaches. Focus on your mind and body to decrease the severity and frequency of headaches.

Self-care ideas:

-Focus on your breathing for at least 10 minutes

-Get enough (and good) sleep


-Take a hot shower or bath, use a warm compress or a hot towel

-Apply an ice pack or a cool washcloth across the forehead
